The sad truth is that no matter how much you brush, floss, or avoid certain foods and beverages that are known to stain, your teeth will still lose a little bit of their sparkle. No one wants yellow teeth and, unfortunately, going to the dentist every month for a cleaning is out of the question (unless your insurance is AMAZING). So what does that mean? You have to deal with stained teeth and low self-esteem because of it? Nope! You can whiten your teeth at home, without spending a ton of money. Here's how:
1. Baking Soda And Lemon Juice Paste
Baking soda is great for removing the surface stains on your teeth and giving you a brighter smile. Mixing several teaspoons of baking soda with lemon juice will give you a nice paste. And once you have that paste, simply apply it to your toothbrush and brush.
2. Baking Soda And Strawberry Paste
You already know why baking soda is great. But did you know strawberries contain malic acid which is a natural whitener? This strawberry paste will help remove those coffee stains. All you have to do is mash up a couple strawberries and add no more than two tablespoons of baking soda. Once that's done, mix and rub the paste on your teeth for about five minutes and then rinse.
3. Charcoal Paste
Charcoal has been getting a lot of buzz lately for its detoxifying skin care masks. But charcoal isn't just great for your face, it can whiten your teeth too. Charcoal, with a little bit of water, creates a nice paste. Apply the paste to your teeth, leave for a couple minutes, rinse, and be amazed at the difference it makes.
4. Coconut Oil Mouthwash
We know it might sound weird, but using coconut oil as a makeshift mouthwash can actually do wonders for your teeth. You know coconut oil can kill bacteria in your body, well it can kill bacteria in your mouth, too! All you need is about a tablespoon of coconut oil. Swish it around your mouth (you can add a little water if you want) for about 10 minutes, rinse it out, and then brush your teeth.
5. Banana Peel Rub
This is another weird teeth whitening method. But it's easy, inexpensive and effective. After you finish brushing your teeth, take a piece of the inside of a banana peel and rub it on your teeth for a couple minutes. Bananas have potassium, magnesium, and a ton of other super good minerals and vitamins. Not only will bananas help whiten, they'll keep your teeth healthy too.
